Why Yoga?

What is yoga?

Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India.  Combining breath (pranayama), postures (asanas), and meditation, yoga brings  balance and unity on a physical and emotional level.  Vinyasa is a type of Hatha Yoga practice that links movement together with breath.  Depending on the individual, this practice may be gentle, restorative, or vigorous.

Who is yoga for?

You!  Anyone can practice yoga.  Yoga has been recommended for a variety of issues, including stress management, depression, anxiety, and back pain.  In addition, yoga increases flexibility as well as strength.  Yoga is helpful for pregnant mamas, post-baby mamas, athletes, and workaholics.  Yoga is also useful for MS, asthma, fibromyalgia, and weight management.

What do I need to practice yoga?

Nothing!  Well, almost nothing!  Really, the only thing you need is a peaceful space to practice in.  Loose clothing is preferable and we will practice in bare feet.  If you have your own mat, that’s great!  If not, I will provide a mat for you, as well as other props that may be needed.

How often should I practice?

As with any discipline, the more you put into the practice, the more you will get out of it.  At least once a week to start with, and depending on your individual needs up to 3-5 times a week.
